Divorce Doula
Many women spend years dreaming of their wedding and having a sacramental marriage with the man they love “until death do us part.”
The reality is at least one in four marriages in the Church are destructive and women (or men) in these marriages either stay while suffering silently doing the work of two trying everything to save he marriage; are abandoned by their spouse; or make the courageous decision to leave and no longer stay at all costs and at any price without real change or reconciliation.
No matter what the circumstances may be, nothing prepares us for the reality of the grief, pain and loss when the end of a marriage becomes imminent.
And, even after the divorce is final, it’s not uncommon to continue feeling stuck and unable to move forward.
Unlike death, this is a living, breathing, walking around grief experienced every other weekend when the kids come home or when we see the one we married find someone new. It is a constant reminder of the loss of what was promised.
It’s been said divorce is like having open-heart surgery while wide awake,
without anesthesia and unsure everything will be put back where it is supposed to be.
The only way out is through and we don’t do really hard things like this on our own.
Even Jesus needed help from Simon of Cyrene to carry His cross.
Just as Christ showed us in His Passion,
there can be something beautiful through and past the pain.
We can have a NEW life in Him if we will answer the door of our heart and let Jesus in to heal the wounds and pour out his grace and mercy in our lives. As my priest friend likes to tell me, “Jesus loves the ladies and their children.” He is the ultimate provider and protector.
Divorce is not the end.
It can be a beautiful beginning.
